Dutch support band of AntiProduct, an album coming very soon and a fuck*** rock'n'roll attitude learnt from bands like 'The Cult', 'Aerosmith' and 'Motley Crue' , inspired but a man like Tom Petty… Wasted (born at 10000 feet on a flight L.A.-Holland!) are ready to rock in this new year 2004 with their energy and sympathy… we had a chat with the guitarist of the band… let's speak with Frank!

We know you come from Holland and had recently been around with Antiproduct for your first gig of the year and there is a new album, coming very soon…am I right? Can you tell us something about it…
Yeah, 2004 seems like a very exiting year since we got all these great events lined up. Actually we are gonna play with Anti Product in Februari. Our first gig of the year was last Friday (19th). We were a little rusty but good! There is defenately an album in the making. We are now in the mixing process so I expected with all the talks with record companies we can have something out as early as august or september! At least I hope besides that we've got a lot of shows commin' our way.

I know that another band has used a name very similar to yours in the past. They were called "Waysted", do you know them? Is there any relation in the choice of your name and this band?
No, no relation at all, I only heard of them when I had allready tattooed Wasted on my lower back so we are stuck with this name since removing my tattoo will be way to painful (laugh).

So now, about you and your "Wasted"…you're the guitarist of the group and there are other 3 members. Can you tell us something about you?
Well I started playing guitar after I witnessed a guy in the schoolband (I must have been 13) playing Venus of the dutch band "Shocking Blue" (a very rare dutch US nr 1) and I just new that by the way the singer looked at him, she (the prettiest girl in school) wanted to fuck him badly! So I concluded: playing guitar will get ya laid. The whole idea of writing beatiful songs came after that. A hormone driven decision that has never let me down (laugh). Wasted is the only band I lay in and I dont really need a project or something now, this takes up a lot of my time (unless something really cools comes along like Brides of Destrution of Nikki Sixx, I might do that whoohaa)

How is Frank off the stage? Is a different person from the musician?
Not really no, on stage I just have this overdose of energy and it's pretty much the same of onstage. I have very little time to presue anything else besides my music and the band. Although I have many other interests such as windsurfing and Formule 1 races.

Something about the other guys of the band...
I met Wallace (the singer and heartbreaker nr 1) a long time ago when I was looking for a singer for a former band. We kinda split up after a few years but then crashed into eachother in a airplane comming from LA, basically Wasted was born at 10000 feet somewhere over the Atlantic. Jeff "Liss' McBacon (bass) and Dave 'o Lution (drums) are brothers and I knew them from the time they played in the band PM for which I was doing roadie stuff We asked them and they liked what they heard, we've been together ever since.

You said…you're changing your style, what do you mean? How much importance do you give to your appearance and your look? Do you think it is an important element for your music and your shows?
What i meant was not that we are changing our style of music but that this record sounds so fucking mature that it will set us apart from alot of other bands in our scene. Im very proud of what we've done with this record uptill now. When you're talking about looks and appearance, to me its a vital part of the package. It reflects the music we are making. Real artists do that by nature, when you see Tom Petty you know what kind of music he makes, because this guy isn't manifactured, its real from the heart just like his music. That goes for us and a million other bands. We don't dress to impress, we undress to impress (laugh).

Hey Frank, I can feel you're very exiting and your expectation for 2004 are very positive…what would you like to happen in this year? (not only about music!)
Jesus eeeh, well seeing the record released would be the biggest thing. Hopefully a tour in EU (and if italy is an option we be there in a flash) and I'd love to see a different champion in Formule 1 than fucking Schumacher. Ferrari isn't half as cool as it used to be. No one beats Mansell in a Ferrari... I'll Lione rules!!!

Ok… tell us three resons why we should come to your live shows! And three why we shouldn't...
Do it cause, it's fun, it's fun, it's fun. Don't do it if your affraid to have fun and enjoy life. Than I reccomend one of those dull gothic parties where you can dress up like a corpse.

You said me once you love glam… Which are your favourite bands? And which bands had more influenced on/in?
Yeah i love glam, but half the reason is because everybody hated it in the Nirvana era ha ha. I love the underdog. Anyway band that have really inspired me to do this and which are a influence on the song wrinting of Wasted are (to name but a few): The Cult, Aerosmith , Motorhead, Guns'N Roses and the Sex Pistols. Stuff that you won't hear directely in the music but that is defenataly there is Tom petty and the Heartbreakers, Beatles, Stones and Bootsy Collins. Fuck I just love music I guess.

If you can choose someone to tour with, how would you choose and why?
It would be The Cult or Aerosmith, both are such cool bands who stood the test of time. "Be humble and learn" thats what that tour should be named.

Did you heard about a possible reunion of Motley Crue…what do you think about that?
I'd say stick with the Brides of Destruction, see Nikki Sixx is a 100% Rock 'n Roll star, doing what he does and he is always good!! He still looks awsome and plays like no one. So he could do that, Tommy could cut it and Mick Marrs could as well. But Vince Neil looked horrible on that last DVD. If he looses weight yeah he could pull it off but he doesn't it will be sad to see and I'd hate that to happen (as a fan) As far as Im concerned The Brides are the best thing Nikki has done in his life!!! Fucking amazing.

What do you know and think about Italian rock'n'roll scene? And what is this like in your country?
To be honest I don't know to much about the Italian Rock'n'Roll scene although I saw some great website from bands. I'd Love to hear some of those guys live. For some reason Italy and Greece have alwys been good countries for Rock 'n Roll, must be something in the Olive Oil. In The Netherlands we are one of the few hardrock bands, most stuff around here is either pop or poppunk... and any one who've ever heard The Pistols know Punk and Pop are hard to mix.

Do you have some bands to reccomand to us? Why?
Yess defenately, please check out this site our label mates Resistor at FlatCatRecords Official Website. They are a techno/rap/rock thing and we've played with them alot besides we sharee porn tapes on tour! I love that band and they have the best rapper in da world!!! Please chek them out.

About your latest gig… it was last friday, isn't it? How did it go?
First live show in 4 month, cause we've been in the studio for so long. We had a blast, it was the first time out with the new tourbus, I almost crashed it on the way back. Not to smart from my part. The gig went great, we were a little rusty but we kicked ass.

Everybody knows AntiProduct because of their crazy attitude, how was the experience to play with them? What do you think about Marina and Alex and the rest of the band?
Well we did two small dutch tours with them and we will be doing another one with them pretty soon. They rock, are extremely talented and very friendly. And they all look gorgious (this includes Alex and the Gonk) I'm so glad someone thought of combining Abba and punk!

Any backstage unusual, crazy or particular moment you want to share with us about this gig?
Well apart from a foodfight which is quite common there was nothing special about the backstage stuff. We had some really wild moments though last year but you know: What happens on the road stays on the road so I'll leave with that. But good god that time when Wallace...

All right…The Rock Explosion question! Is there any question you would like to be asked but nobody did yet? If there is one can you tell us and add the answer too…
Did Michael Jackson do it? Not with me, but they are defenately after his money!

Our interview is finished…is there something you want to add or wish to say to our readers?
Yeah go out and go see Anti Product these guys Rock like fuck!!! Check out the FlatCatRecords Official Website and leave a message if ya want, I'd love to know what is going on in Italy Rock 'n Roll whise!
